Welcome to Northwest Assessment and Advocacy. I am a certificated School Psychologist, School Counselor, and School Administrator with over 28 years experience working with children and adolescents. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor-Associate, and a Child Mental Health Specialist. My focus is two-fold: therapy and assessment.
I have extensive experience in disability identification, schools, and the challenges associated with raising children who don’t develop like the experts say they should. I hold a special place in my heart for adolescents who struggle to meet the social and academic demands of school, and the parents who raise them.
I very much enjoy conducting diagnostic evaluations. I am an educational specialist with years of training and experience in evaluating the learning of students in kindergarten through college. A comprehensive diagnostic educational assessment can help families understand the reasons behind the struggles a child or adolescent is having at school. Testing will pull out the unique strengths and weaknesses of your child’s learning profile and help you and the school understand how to intervene together. This includes identification of ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, giftedness, and twice exceptionality. My assessments are specifically focused on school-aged students and are aimed to identify the strategies and services that will lead to improved functioning, and ultimately more comfort and happiness in the classroom.
I am also available for educational consultations – including review of school assessments, 504 plans and IEP’s, and coaching for parents who are trying to navigate the school and legal system, while working with school teams to help their children thrive in school.
I love counseling people of all ages who are struggling with PTSD, anxiety, depression or social skills. My goal is to help each client identify their strengths and values so they can move toward a meaningful life. Not everyone develops at the same rate, and being different can feel lonely and alienating. I believe people are resilient, and well-timed therapy and support can help you get back on track.
People who have experienced trauma are very special to me. Behaviors that look to others like anger, opposition to authority, or extreme avoidance, are actually self-protection. You might turn inward after a trauma, restricting your experiences and behaviors to avoid further danger or pain, which leads to a smaller existence. The truth is, if you have lived through a trauma, you are already resilient! We will work together to identify your strengths and values so you can live a full and meaningful life.
I am very excited to meet you and start the important work of helping you grow and thrive!
